Cerro Catedral: The Complete Guide for International Skiers

    Why Cerro Catedral?

Cerro Catedral sits just 20 kilometres from the lakeside city of San Carlos de Bariloche, making it the most accessible major ski resort in Patagonia. With over 1,200 hectares of skiable terrain, 53 marked runs, and a peak elevation of 2,100 metres, it's the largest ski area in South America — and it punches well above its weight on snow quality.

    The Terrain

The resort splits naturally into two zones. The front face offers wide, groomed boulevards perfect for intermediates and families. The back bowls and ridge lines — accessed via the Nubes chairlift — open up into steep chutes, off-piste powder fields, and technical terrain that will challenge any expert.

The tree skiing through the lenga forests is exceptional, especially on storm days when visibility drops above the treeline.

    Best Weeks to Visit

Early July brings fresh base-building snowfalls and smaller crowds. Late July through mid-August is peak season — the snow is deepest, but expect lift queues and higher prices. September offers spring conditions: soft corn snow, long sunny days, and the chance to ski in a t-shirt.

Our recommendation? The last two weeks of July. Deep snow, long days, and the resort is fully operational without the August crush.

    Where to Stay

In the base village: Convenient ski-in/ski-out access but limited dining options. Best for families who want to maximise slope time.

In Bariloche: A 20-minute drive gives you access to the city's excellent restaurants, craft beer scene, and chocolate shops. We arrange private transfers so the commute is effortless.

Lakeside lodges: For something more exclusive, we book private estancias on the shores of Lago Gutiérrez or Lago Mascardi — total seclusion with the mountains as your backdrop.
